Family
That is only a small part of the Ray Floyd story. He is a devoted husband
and father, as the PGA of America acknowledged in choosing the Floyds as
the 1994 Golf Family of the Year. Ray and Maria live in Palm Beach, Florida,
and have three children: son Raymond, Jr. graduated from Wake Forest University
in May, and is now a professional golfer; son Robert attended the University
of Florida and is now a professional golfer; and daughter Christina is in
her sophomore year at Wake Forest University.
Sponsors
His image is one of integrity, intensity and excellence. The qualities that
made him a legendary golfer also have made him an ideal spokesman for a select
group of prestigious companies such as Southwestern Bell, who he has been
with for almost 15 years, since the inception of the company after the AT&T
breakup; Lexus, who he has been a partner with since the companys launch
in 1991; Softspikes, who he joined while it was in its developmental stages;
along with Hyatt Resorts Worldwide and Advil. He has brought to these corporate
affiliations the same professionalism that has earned the respect of his
fellow competitors and golf spectators throughout the world.
Golf Course Design
Floyd has also demonstrated his talent in the golf course design business,
and has more than a dozen projects to his credit. To every project he brings
his knowledge of shot making and his feel for blending holes to create a
design strategy that yields a challenging and memorable golfing experience.
Most recently, Floyd has restored Doral's "Blue Monster". He used his skill
as an architect and his experience as a long time Doral Open participant
and champion to maintain Dick Wilson's intent and design philosophy for Doral.
The restoration has received excellent reviews by the players during the
Doral/Ryder Open.
